five minute friday – {here}
Today I am joining Lisa-Jo and others for the 5 Minute Friday where we are given a word prompt and write for just 5 minutes simply for the joy of writing.
No editing or backtracking necessary. No need to be perfect. Just words freely flowing from my heart to yours. Today’s Word : {Here}
START:
I was excited when I saw this word for five minute Friday, this is what it’s all about – being in the here and now.
For me, I have learned many lessons on being in the here and now. In therapy I no longer go back into my past, but I bring the past to the here and now and work with it in the now to where I have more control than I did back then.
I am also the type of person that has been known to jump ahead – when I see something I want to run towards it and avoid the work along the way, but that has proven time and time again to not be effective.
I go to the gym and want to run towards the 150 pounder bench press and start lifting it, but then I remind myself – “this is what I can lift today, and this is the workout I will do today” .. I wont get to the 150 pounds bench press if I dont work hard in the here and now to get there.
My therapist always uses the phrase “I dont want to run ahead of you, but to be in the here and now, right in this moment with you”.
I have really learned to not jump ahead, and not get caught into the past and it’s web. I have learned to carefully work with each thing and bring it to the now and use the tool I have today to work with them – and it has been more healing for me.
I have had some of my past re-surface lately and I have learned to bring that into the now, and not go back into “IT”. It’s not easy, but this right now is where I have control over it.
I wake up each morning and think “what can I do here and now today” .. I don’t think about tomorrow, I don’t dwell in the hardness yesterday brought to me, but I think of the here and now, and how can I work with the past and future in the now?
It has taken some work to do this, and we can sometimes get lost in the things all around us, our focus gets clouded, we get lost in the what if’s or buts.. it’s easy to get lost in that – but the next time your overwhelmed with all around you, sit and be in the “here and now” and deal with what is in front of you – one moment at a time.

I love this — the confidence in the joy of being present. These precious moments to be grateful for — the right now, not the someday. Thank you.

“sit and be in the “here and now” and deal with what is in front of you – one moment at a time” if only.
We spend so much time praying, dreaming, anticipating…that we miss the power and beauty of here and now.
Thanks for the reminder.
Peace and good to you on your journey.
