five minute friday {write}

February 7, 2014Karen Courcy

writing-to-heal-cover-11Welcome to five minute Friday to where us bloggers are given a word prompt and write for just 5 minutes simply for the joy of writing.

No editing or backtracking. No need to be perfect. Just words freely flowing from my heart to yours.

Today’s Five minute Friday word is {WRITE}

Start

I have been writing since I was as little as 5 years old! Writing is my way to expressing out the old messages from my past with the new messages of today; giving voice to both the younger me and the adult me today.

I started this blog about 4 years ago, and in these 4 years I have found connection through my writing, and connection through other people walking the same path as me.

Writing has always been a comfort for me – a way for me to express my feelings and emotions when my voice feels silent and still.

When I was little I would write notes and letters and hide them inside a hole in the wall in the closet so no one would find them. Those writings were expressions and emotions that I couldn’t let be seen because of the abuse I went through as a child. It was my outlet, and today I use the same outlet through my blog and the many things I write and bring into therapy for my therapist to read.

I am in the process of writing a book about my past. I have taken a break from the book writing so that I can tend more to the healing process, but writing is my way to express the lies and the old messages from my past with new truth here and now.

Since I began writing this blog I have learned so much about myself in this process of healing. I also have had some hard moments through my writing. I came up against a situation that touched on a huge part of my past that triggered me into old feelings and emotions, but I also learned from that hard moment and it made me stronger.

I love to write! I love finding words to match the many little things inside that I have a hard time expressing! I will continue to find ways to use words and writing as a part of my healing path and I am so glad and blessed that I have many wonderful people I can connect to through my writing and healing.

How does writing and words help you in your life?

    Always love your 5 min friday. Writing helps me think things through and blogging is a way to make sense of my recovery. It’s such a sweet image of you writing notes as a child and hiding them, although I appreciate it came from traumatic circumstances

    I’m always impressed that you can write for 5 minutes on a topic and come up with these very articulate pages.

    I’m glad you have writing and discovered it when so young. You have a natural flow in your writing and your heart always comes through.

    Writing helps me let go of things, by getting them out of my head. It’s a releasing. Writing also is an attempt to sort and make sense of things and communicate with others.

      aww Thank you Gel 🙂 … its funny because sometimes I can write and write and write, and then other times I feel like the weight of silence is just so heavy I can’t push through.. it’s amazing what writing can do 🙂

      I think you should do the 5 minute Friday .. you would like it .. it’s challenging but fun!
