five minute friday – {story}

Welcome to Five Minute Friday – Five minute Friday we bloggers write for five minutes flat on Fridays.

We set a timer for 5 minutes, throw caution to the wind!

write for 5 minutes, no drafting, no editing – today’s word is: STORY

Start: Since I was a little girl I was a writer. I would write on pieces of paper all my thoughts, wanting to tell someone my story about what was done to me by others in the house. I would then hide the papers inside a hole in the wall, and save them until I could tell my story.

35+ years later I showed up in therapy and decided to share my story, telling the story, talking about the abuse I endured as a child. I have now been in therapy 5+ years now, and I continue to walk through my story however I need to.

Just a year ago I decided to open up a blog and to start telling my story through my writing; just as I did as a child. My only form of communication as a child was to write, even if no one saw it. But a year ago I took a chance and decided to continue to write my story through my blog as well as going to therapy.

My sole purpose as a child, and as an adult has been about “telling my story” about the abuse.

What I have come to learn in this process is that there is a lot of power in “telling your story”. To me there is no greater power than having a voice to speak, and that is something I never had a child.

In therapy, my therapist and I are working hard together on a “timeline” form of talking about and telling my story, and it’s powerful and BIG, and comes with BIG emotions and feelings – but it gives me so many ways to close the scars within, and make new stories as I heal,  story forward.

I was sent this quote recently from the writing team at RAAIN and I LOVE IT – “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you”

So the story and journey continues . . . . . to new paths in my life going forward

  1. And what a STORY you have Karen! Not only a story of your past, but a story of your now, a story of how you go through your life from the story in your past, and about your story going forward! BEAUTIFUL

    I love your story, and I cannot wait to read more of it as you grow into the new path of life

  2. Oh my stars, what a blessing to pop by today from 5MF! Your words stir my soul. I’m so glad you are taking those steps to tell your story. Through being brave enough to tell your story you will open legends of doors for others to walk through their trial and tell their story. What a gift you are!

  3. Oh, look what God can do through you! What a story of redemption you have to share. . . thank you for opening up your heart to us and doing just that! To God be the glory…

    (and I love that quote!)

Please take a moment to comment! I love connecting with others!
