five minute friday {roots}
Welcome to five minute Friday to where us bloggers are given a word prompt and write for just 5 minutes simply for the joy of writing.
No editing or backtracking necessary. No need to be perfect. Just words freely flowing from my heart to yours.
Today’s Five minute Friday word is {roots}
Start
When I think of the word “roots” I think about strength. Roots grow over time, and the more it grows, the stronger it gets, the stronger it gets, the harder it is to break.
I love the quote “storms make tree’s take deeper roots“. This reminds me so much of my healing journey. The process is long, and it takes times, but the more time it takes, the stronger I become through it.
In therapy I have this plaque photo of a tree, and every session I go into during the week, my therapist puts this photo up before I even go into the room – it represents my healing. I gave this gift to my therapist and on the back I wrote something about tree’s on the back, and the word Roots reminded me of this photo that hangs in my therapist room, and it says:
I started to picture the trees in the storm. The answer began to dawn on me. The tree’s in the storm don’t try and stand up straight, tall, or strong. They allow themselves to bend and be blown with the wind. They understand the power of letting go. Those tree’s and those branches that try too hard to stand up strong and straight, are the ones that break. Now is not the time to be strong or you too will break.
The sunlight that shines between the trees after the storm is the support that heals the broken branches, and gives it strength to grow again.
Thank you for being one of the many sunspots in my healing journey
I truly believe roots are a sign of growing, healing, being and becoming… the more you grow, the bigger your strength.

Karen, this is beautiful. I really appreciate your candor and willingness to share. What a great image of strength in the trees. Such an important thing to remember about our wind blown lives. We grow in the storms and we get stronger with each one. Thank you and may God bless you in your journey of healing. I too have had to heal from so much. Isn’t it powerful to know our strength comes from God? Thank you.

How much I love your words tonight friend. That the tree bends in the storm rather than breaking. Thank you for sharing your heart. Blessings.

I enjoyed this! What great imagery in that quote – letting go so we don’t break.

Beautiful post. I love roots. I loved learning that the roots of trees in a forest intermingle with each others’ roots, sharing support and nutrients. As a metaphor this makes me think that while we are individuals, we get our support and strength by being connected. Even a lone tree has a ‘community’ of microorganisms and fungi living around it’s roots underground.
I also love that it’s the roots that give the tree the stability that allow the above ground parts to move, sway and be flexible with the wind. Even though trees don’t ‘get to’ travel of their own volition, they have the grace to be responsive and be moved by the world around them.

Girl, first off, I think this is officially my favorite blog design EVER! What a cool place you’ve got here. Second, I believe roots are a sign of growing too, they hold us firmly.
Nice meeting you!
